Each curriculum for every client is unique, corresponding to their needs and the participating faculty.  The examples of programs below illustrate various configurations and how learning content can be configured to achieve specific objectives.

Artificial Intelligence Leadership

The desired outcome of the training is:

  • Being up to speed on state of the art of AI: management, concepts, tools and literature.
  • Clear way forward for strategic interventions that strengthen and build the AI culture of the company.
  • Boost AI thinking and execution inside the company where new concepts and tools can be applied.

Outline of the Program:

The program consists of four building blocks:

1.) Tools and Concepts to Boost AI Thinking

There are many ways to boost the creative capacity of people. Tools like trend watching, scenario studies, ordinary brainstorming, design thinking, creative challenges, customer journey mapping, the business model canvas, ideas competitions and something as trivial as a dedicated notebook for new AI ideas can help people to look at existing problems in new ways, come up with new solutions for existing problems, and imagine completely new concept. Knowing these tools and applying them to existing business challenges is what we'll do in the training.

2.) AI Innovation Management

AI innovation is about much more than just coming up with 1,000 new ideas. A lot of the success of Silicon Valley is that it's an extremely selective environment. For every 'yes' to an investment decision, an average venture capital firm says at least a hundred times 'no’.

Inside large corporations, a similar selection process is needed. This way there will be enough focus to bring a limited number of AI ideas to the market, instead of working on hundreds of AI ideas that will all fail due to a lack of resources. So, the skill needed is to systematically, reliably and efficiently identify the AI ideas with the biggest potential.

Managing the AI innovation portfolio is a management task like finance and operations, and needs to be imbedded in the governance structure of the company. The starting point is to design a long-term AI strategy, that is aligned with the overall mission and vision of the corporation. AI requires a governance structure, with clearly defined roles for the company leadership, the AI leaders and the business lines, and with clear rules on how to say 'yes' or 'no' to new AI projects in the portfolio.

3.) AI Leadership, Creativity and Culture

Building the AI capacity of an organization requires more than getting the creative thinking and the formal governance right. It also requires building an AI culture that invites everyone in the company to come up with new solutions and hunt for new opportunities by embracing the tools of AI. At the heart of any AI innovation culture is the call to action from the company leadership. Not only in formal wording, but also in the behavior of individual managers. This requires personal leadership, and that is something we will focus on in the training.

4.) Masters of AI

AI is an overused term, that is often used without a clear definition and without clear conceptual frameworks. For a company to successfully build AI capacity, it is crucial that all the people in the organization use a common language and use clearly defined concepts that have roots in science. For this we will give 'Masters of AI' talks in the program. These will highlight key insights and concepts from the literature in short 45-minute talks.

  2. How to design and implement an AI management system inside a large company.
  3. Understand how the ecosystem created the success of Silicon Valley, and what lessons another company can draw from that.

  1. How to build a culture of continuous AI innovation, that values collaboration and the ongoing pursuit of new ways to create value for the customer and the company.

Business Process Management

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is an exciting course that will provide you with a strong understanding of business process management (BPM) fundamentals, and specifically, process modeling, analysis, design, transformation, and organization. We will focus on practical applications that will enable immediate use of these tools and methods in your daily work environment.

We will cover all major types of process models and how to use them, including a review of the technologies that are available. Class discussions will provide insight on planning, goals and metrics, project management, and decision-making within multi-national corporations in the global marketplace. Today, firms must rely on continuous change, innovation, and a global-reaching network of suppliers and customers. As such, this course addresses challenges and critical problem-solving with a study of concepts and useful tools with cases, projects, and presentations.

We will cover tools for analyzing gaps in business process, identify rules for redesign to focus improvements, and use a creative method to build the “to be” state so that you can achieve breakthrough results. Then you build a transformation strategy so that the improvement efforts will stick.

Whether you’re managing a process team or looking to improve your professional toolkit, this course will help you to become better equipped in today’s complex environment. In addition, the course will integrate the insights learned from other BPM courses to deepen your operational leadership capability. Discussions will also include the organizing and leading of a cohesive team, working in partnership with internal and external cross-functional groups to proactively address the dynamic impact of changes and requirements throughout operations, thereby mitigating risks and maximizing opportunities with well-organized change management techniques.

Introduction

Whether working in remote, lean, startup teams or large multi-site organizational structures, emotional intelligence is a cornerstone for effective communication. Effective communication is more than the transmission of information, it fosters team engagement, individual well being, satisfaction and decision making. The break down of communication through misunderstandings and hard feelings is costly, strategies to clear the emotional air and refresh communication.  Effective communicators have strong empathy and can reflect on their own emotions as well as interpret the emotional cues from those around them.

There is a science to establishing empathic and engaged communication, and it can be trained. You will receive clear guidance and evidence for science based activities that develop and strengthen emotional intelligence. All science and strategies in the program are the most up-to-date research, particularly from the fields of psychology, business, and neuroscience. You will receive a tool box and come up with a plan to integrate the skills and science for building a culture of clear empathic communication at work.

Course Take Aways

Over the course of three days, you will learn more about the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of emotions for emotionally fluent communication through a variety of educational and experiential material. You will learn specific emotion strategies for communicating when experiencing anxiety and/or frustration. Concrete skills for recognizing emotions in ourselves and others is informed through the neuroscience of cognitive and emotional empathy. This includes the recognition of facial expressions of emotion and responding to our own stress and the stress of others with compassion. In addition to these preventative strategies, instructions for reparative exercises of forgiveness and gratitude will be clearly explained and practiced. Throughout the weekend evidenced-based practices drawn directly from the Greater Good Science Center will be demonstrated. For the conclusion of the course you will develop an individualized implantation plan to organize weekly or monthly strengthening sessions with the support of online tools and feedback.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for two primary groups. The first are managers who would like to learn the evidence about why these skills are essential and how to bring them back to their teams and individual employees. The second would be entire teams who want to learn these tools together and make a plan for incorporating them into an existent organizational flow. The skills taught in this course can also be directly applied to an individual who wants to improve their communication toolbox.

 

Cyber-Security

Course Overview

This course is divided into two modules, Introductory and Advanced. Both modules are structured to begin with pre-reading, then in-person classroom instruction, followed by intensive hands on computer laboratory practicum.

Classroom instruction for Introductory module includes theory, organizational structure, policy, and compliance as well as hands on activities associated with architecture, systems and data analysis, threat detection, response, and remediation.  Advanced module includes expanded cyber security theory, system and data segmentation, advanced protection concepts, countermeasures, as well more sophisticated activities associated with architecture, systems and data analysis, threat detection, response, and remediation.

Introductory Intensive Workshop: Five (5) Days.

Pre-work with advanced reading, two days cyber security theory plus three days hands on computer laboratory.

Advanced Intensive Workshop: Fifteen (15) Days.

Five days classroom advanced theory and coding. Ten days hands on computer laboratory. Advanced cyber threat gaming interactive environment.

Pre-requisites: Successful completion of Introductory Course and working knowledge of software development methodologies and Python coding.

Learn techniques to effectively produce actionable reports and visualizations from data and data sets. Through hands-on exercises, you leverage statistical, data-querying and dashboard tools to create products that accurately convey crucial business trends and themes.

1- Program Overview

In a world where "Big Data" is king, it has become increasingly important for all employees to have facility with some data analytics functionality. Upon completion of this boot camp, employees will have a deeper understanding of industry-leading technologies and best practices in data analysis, data visualization, and data-driven decision making. Employees will also demonstrate ability to use the latest data-related technologies in their day-to-day work responsibilities, and will be more confident and competent in discussing/understanding the data that will help drive or inform their work-related decisions. These small projects will be developed in consultation with the firm in order to ensure they are directly relevant to the day-to-day functions of the organization.

Design Thinking

Design Thinking: Innovation

Innovation drives most successful companies and organizations. Design Thinking enables innovation – whether start-ups or Fortune 500 companies or social sector organizations. Innovation is a process that requires diligence, discipline and focus. And, mental frameworks that enable curiosity, empathy and suspending judgment. It requires imagination and human capital. It also requires shared tools, practices and habits of mind. Innovation is not restricted to “creative” people. Participants will work collaboratively to understand and then solve problems. The goal of this program is to equip participants with innovation skills and practices.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, the participants should be able to:

An overview of the Design Thinking process for the practical, creative resolution of challenging user centered problems, whether they are products, services or processes. The essence of Design Thinking is the ability to combine empathy, creativity and rationality to meet user needs and drive business success. We will explore the theory and practice (through case studies) of Design Thinking as central to product design in a rapidly changing world.

Design Thinking Interviews

The ethnographic interview of customers or stakeholders is the raw data for the Design Thinking process. Conducting a good interview is a high-level skill and requires practice. Participants will observe one of the teaching team conduct an interview with “time-outs” to explain the process.  The goal is for the participant to understand what to probe and listen for: stories (emotions), contradictions, work-arounds etc. Following this, participants conduct their own interviews with millennials around a topic relevant to HERE.

Design Thinking Exercises - Challenging the Problem Statement for Product Managers

This session focuses on the challenge of unpacking and understanding what the interview is telling us. Participants in teams will be coached through an exercise to pull out the stories and interesting “nuggets” from multiple interviews and identify a set of themes through a clustering exercise. Using Design Thinking tools, participants will frame and reframe the initial problem statement opening up a new space for innovative solutions.

Program management involves simultaneously managing multiple interrelated projects. In this three- day intensive workshop, you learn practical skills and strategies to decompose a complex deliverable into manageable pieces, and to identify and develop coherent plans for managing interproject dependencies. STRATEGY BOOTCAMP FOR LEADERS

I. Program Overview

The Berkeley Strategy Bootcamp gives individuals and organizations the tools and processes they need to create and execute winning strategies and make better business decisions in today’s complex and rapidly changing world. It’s based on powerful techniques developed by the military and intelligence agencies, as well as a proven execution system created by one of the most successful CEOs in history.

In our hyperconnected world, the half-life of any decision or market position is getting shorter. This requires managers to make informed decisions quickly while still remaining open to changing direction to avoid emergent challenges and take advantage of new opportunities. The Berkeley Strategy Bootcamp provides managers with the tools and techniques they need to:

1. Understand the challenges and opportunities they face

2. Cultivate innovative think to solve for these problems and ensure the best ideas win, regardless of where they originate in the organization

3. Develop clear and effective strategies for implementing those ideas

4. Rigorously stress-test those plans to ensure they can succeed

This is a practical, hands-on course built around real-world challenges and opportunities your company is dealing with right now. II. Course Structure

This program will be structured as five individual units of 8 hours each. Employees will attend class for 2 consecutive days per month for 2 months, then 1 day the third month. Employees will be provided with short but meaningful out-of-class assignments to encourage them to practice and continue to develop the skills they are learning. These small projects will be developed in consultation with your company in order to ensure they are directly relevant to the day-to-day functions of the organization.

III. CURRICULUM

NOTE: This is a sample curriculum that can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the employees participating in the program. UC Berkeley can help identify the skill set of the team with a brief assessment and can level up or down the program topics accordingly.
